Prospective Installers will be introduced to best practices in air sealing, insulating, duct sealing, and base-load energy improvements for conventional homes and mobile homes. In addition, you will learn the essential concepts in building science in order to help you understand not just how but why particular measures need to be taken to improve the energy efficiency, combustion safety, and indoor air quality of buildings.

Once an emerging trend, green building has become a growing part of today’s construction industry. Learn green building practices for experts in the field - and train your crew to be “green” savvy! This seven-course track - ideal for contractors - will teach you the fundamental principles of green building relating to energy efficiency, building durability, indoor air quality, resource efficiency, and water efficiency. You will receive a Green Builder Certificate upon completing the seven courses and passing each course's final exam.

This course is accessible for 12 months online and is self-paced.  Average course completion time is 60 hours. There is no set start date.

For professionals who want to demonstrate green building expertise in non-technical fields of practice, the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) has created the LEED Green Associate credential, which denotes a demonstrated knowledge of green design, construction, and operations. The LEED Green Associate credential also serves as the first step for professionals pursuing a LEED AP specialization. This course will help you:

  • Identify the key components of the LEED Rating Systems
  • Discuss the LEED Certification process for both Buildings and Homes
  • Describe the intents and associated concepts of each LEED credit category
  • Describe successful LEED strategies
  • Prepare for the LEED Green Associate examination

This course is accessible for 2 months online and is self-paced.  Average course completion time is 8 hours. There is no set start date.

This group of courses will help architects (as well as contractors, building owners, and consulting engineers) understand, apply, and comply with the ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004 -- the minimum energy efficiency standard in the U.S. for all non-residential buildings and all residential buildings exceeding three stories. This course is a U.S. Green Building Council-approved Education Provider Program and offers a foundation for those wishing to move on to the LEED Rating Systems. This series is comprised of the following three courses: Energy-Efficient Design - Fundamentals of Standard 90.1, Advanced Energy Design Guide for Small Retail Buildings, and Advanced Energy Design Guide for Small Office Buildings. The latter two courses are a thorough study of the design concepts, strategies, and recommendations suited to the energy requirements of small retail buildings and small office buildings, respectively.
